Announcing “Worldweavers #2: Spellspam”

The second book in Alma Alexander’s new YA trilogy, “Worldweavers”, is released in hardcover on March 11, 2008. The mass market papetback edition of “Worldweavers #1: Gift of the Unmage” is to be released on the same date.

The Worldweavers trilogy is both a cutting-edge mix of well-known fantasy tropes and ideas hardly ever seen together before - the first book alone introduces Native American mythology, computer magic, and a malignant race of Elves with the souls of Star Trek's Ferengi. The second book, in the publisher's words, "ups the ante on a fantasy world that is rich and nuanced, but with a core of wildly original magic." Critics have called the first book of the trilogy "Exquisite." (ALA Booklist), "Suspenseful and engrossing." (Kirkus Reviews), "Incredibly fresh and unique." (Kliatt) - and it has been compared to Susan Cooper, Madeleine L'Engle, Ursula le Guin and even J K Rowling, with more than one reviewer suggesting the trilogy as an ideal post-Potter elixir. Thea Winthrop, our heroine, emerges from the coccoon of "The Girl Who Couldn't" and takes on the problems of her magical world with the enthusiastic but often potentially disastrous assistance with her friends from the "Last Ditch School for the Incurably Incompetent".
