With an international cult following and over eleven million copies of her books in print in twenty-eight countries, Sherrilyn Kenyon has claimed the #1 spot on the most coveted list in the United States, the New York Times. Her latest release, Upon the Midnight Clear, is part of her world-renowned Dark-Hunter series.
Fresh back from the annual K-Con (Kenyon Convention) that is put on each year by her fans in New Orleans, where they raise thousands of dollars for charity and celebrate her worlds, Ms. Kenyon couldn’t be more excited. “I grew up poor, but even as a kid I knew I wanted to be a writer. This is a dream come true.” The author herself is very humble about her international fame. “It’s been a long, hard road of heartbreak and raw determination. But I guess my mother was right, if you believe strongly enough, even the most impossible dream can come true.” In fact, it was only ten years ago, that she and her family were on welfare. Today she’s one of the most celebrated authors in the world, hitting lists in countries as diverse and far reaching as Japan, France, UK, Australia, Finland and Canada.
While Ms. Kenyon is delighted, this isn’t much of a surprise to the author’s dedicated readers, who come from all parts of the world just to meet her. This year, she had fans fly to the US from Belgium, Canada, the UK, Japan, South Africa, West Indies, France, Germany and Australia to attend her signings. In fact, her fans in the US drive an average of four hours to meet her, and her ground-breaking website draws more than 200,000 dedicated Kenyon Minions from more than forty-five countries each week.
When asked how she planned to celebrate her latest NYT bestseller, Ms. Kenyon laughed and said, “The only way I know how. I’m kissing my babies, doing a booksigning in Nashville, thanking my fans online and finishing off my next book.”
