SFF Net hosts SF/F newsgroups, some private and some public, where you'll find a lively--and growing--population of fans and pros talking about every aspect of the field.
DM Net hosts the SFRT, famous for its Genie version, now on the Internet with private newsgroups in a wide range of interests.
AOL Chat
Megan Lindholm has started a weekly AOL chat for SFWAns, Tuesday evenings from about 9 PM - Midnight EST. From the main menu click on People Connection, then Rooms, Then Private Rooms, then type SFWA and press enter. "It's been starting up closer to 10 PM EST (7 Pacific) so far but we hope to extend the hours. She's notified all the SFWA members listed on AOL in the Directory, but there are probably others, or some who might subscribe if they knew there was a growing online community there."
Compuserve
There are SF/F forums on Compuserve, with private areas accessible only to SFWAns. Compuserve also offers freeflags to SFWAns on some of the forums.
