Michael Coney (1932-2005)

Award winning author, Michael Greatrex Coney, died from cancer at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital in Saanichton, British Columbia on November 4.

Coney was born in Birmingham England on September 28, 1932. He and his wife Daphne operated a pub in England fnd a hotel in Antigua prior to moving to Canada in 1972. He worked for the British Columbia Forest Service for seventeen years before retiring.

The author of many novels and short stories, Coney recently published three new novels on his website http://www.members.shaw.ca/mconey/ when he realized that his health was failing.

His Novel Brontomek won the British Science Fiction Award in 1977 and he was nominated for the Nebula Award and 5 times for the Aurora Award.

He is survived by his wife Daphne, 3 children, 8 grandchildren and several grandchildren. At the family's request, there was no service.
